"Beautiful Girl" It is the first song that I heard from Jose Mari Chan, a Filipino-Chinese singer and songwriter who popularized OPM hits from the late 60's and 90's. I heard this song since when I was eight or nine years old. Growing up with love songs and acoustic hits during high school and college days I also recognize some of his songs like "Refrain", "Constant Change", "Can We Just Stop and Talk Awhile" (revived by Gary V. and Kyla) and "Please Be Careful With My Heart" (with Regine Velasquez).
Now, I am 20 years old, I appreciate once again the songs of this great balladeer through Christian Bautista's album entitled "Romance Revisited: The Love Songs of Jose Mari Chan." Some of the hits from this album which can be heard in the air waves including "Tell Me Your Name" and "Beautiful Girl" which revived by Christian Bautista. I learned more about this great singer-songwriter. He become famous as a singer in the late 1960's and 1970's with his classical ballads including "Deep in my Heart", "Refrain",and "Afterglow". He is also a great singer-songwriter with his smooth voice, meaningful lyrics, and romantic ballads. I appreciate Jose Mari Chan for the songs he wrote and popularized that is why I consider him as one of the original Filipino composers who enrich the history of Pinoy Music.
